Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, codenamed So-Safe Corps, have arrested a 21-year-old man, Ayomide Adebayo, for allegedly breaking into a residence at Asore, Atan-Ota, and stealing household items.
The suspect was reportedly arrested after he allegedly jumped over the fence of the house and gained access to the premises while the owner was away at church on Sunday.
Items allegedly stolen included rice, bread, cooking pots, and an undisclosed amount of money.
The development was disclosed in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday by the State Commander of the Corps, Soji Ganzallo, and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi.
According to the statement, the Atan Area Commander, ACC Adekunle Job, received a distress call at about 1:30 p.m. that a male suspect had allegedly jumped over the fence and gained unlawful access to a house.
The statement said officers were immediately mobilised to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended and taken to the command for further investigation.
It added that the suspect, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to gaining entry through the rear fence after removing the window burglary protection.
The statement quoted him as saying that he subsequently entered the main building and allegedly removed some household items, including rice, bread, and cooking pots, as well as an undisclosed amount of money.
According to the corps, the house owner returned from church and became suspicious after discovering that the gate was locked from inside, despite having locked it from outside before leaving.
The owner reportedly gained access to the premises and found the suspect inside the house.
He then raised an alarm, which attracted people to the scene and led to the suspect’s apprehension before his handover to the So-Safe Corps.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Atan Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Ganzallo reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
He also cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.
