The Northwest remains Nigeria’s electoral fortress as the unfolding drama ahead of 2027 general elections continue to unfold on whether Nigerians would shop for a new president or incumbent president Bola Ahmed Tinubu would continue.
Northwest – a region whose weight at the ballot box is matched only by its capacity to shape the national conversation can never be overlooked as the political currents begin to stir and alliances crystallize across zones, an emerging reality that is impossible to ignore.
The path to Nigeria’s presidency, once again, must pass through the northern heartland. This time, however, the terrain is being defined not just by voting numbers but by a deliberate, calculated synergy between two distinct leaders President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State as Kaduna remains the heart of northern Nigeria.
That synergy was on full display recently in Kaduna, where governors, lawmakers, ministers, and traditional rulers from across the North West converged in a rare show of unity. The high-powered gathering ended with a communique that left no room for speculation.
Presided over by Governor Uba Sani himself, the forum resolved unequivocally that there would be no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027. The motion for endorsement, initiated by Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and seconded by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, offered more than just political rhetoric. It cited renewed security architecture, landmark infrastructure projects, and a generous share of twelve ministerial slots as evidence of the zone’s growing relevance in the Tinubu’s led administration.
Within this wider framework of strategic northern consolidation, a significant move was made by the Tinubu-Uba Leadership Network (TULN), a grassroots-driven political structure with a clear mandate: to deepen and defend the continuity of progressive governance.
On June 9, 2025, TULN paid a solidarity visit to elder statesman and political icon, Hon. Sani Mohammad Sha’aban, the son in-law of former president, Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Zaria. The visit was far from perfunctory. It was a statement of purpose, a symbolic handshake across generations, and a nod to the importance of coalition-building ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested election cycle.
The delegation to Zaria, the home town of Vice Presidential candidate to Peter Obi of labour party, in 2023 general elections Dr. Datti Baba Ahmed was led by General Secretary Charity Alex and National Coordinator Hon. (Dr.) Victor Mathew Bobai, the TULN delegation made a compelling case for continuity not as a political slogan, but as a national imperative grounded in performance.
Their message was firm yet thoughtful. Under the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, the North has seen concrete transformation: displaced farmers have begun returning to their lands, federal projects are springing up across strategic states, and once-marginalized communities are now woven into the national development fabric. From Sokoto to Zamfara, Katsina to Kaduna, the signs of federal presence are no longer abstract as they are visible, meaningful, and changing lives, despite mild challenges.
At the center of this evolution stands Governor Uba Sani, a figure whose emergence as the North West’s political coordinator is no accident. In a zone known for complex power dynamics, Sani has carved a niche as a bridge-builder, uniting traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth constituencies under a shared developmental vision as Kaduna, under his watch, has become a reference point for inclusive governance, with Southern Kaduna benefiting from renewed institutional attention, while the core northern districts receive scaled infrastructure and educational expansion.
The evidence of this partnership speaks volumes. The establishment of the Federal University of Education and Federal School of Nursing in Zaria, the proposed Federal Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, and the siting of a Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, along with a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, reflect deliberate, region-sensitive governance.
Moreso, the appointment of General Christopher Musa Gwabin, a Southern Kaduna native, as Chief of Defence Staff further underscores the administration’s commitment to balanced national security leadership. This gesture has drastically reduced the incessant abductions and killings in the Southern part of Kaduna state, that was a war zone in the last administration.
In Zaria, the reception accorded to TULN by Hon. Sha’aban was warm, generous, and instructive. Beyond hospitality, he offered clarity as he praised the forum’s growing influence and advised its expansion into all twenty-three local government areas of Kaduna State.
His endorsement of Hon. Bobai’s leadership came without hesitation. With the ease of a man speaking from both experience and conviction, Sha’aban affirmed that in the unfolding political journey, there is wisdom in following the one who knows the road.
In the political terrain of 2027, leadership anchored in grassroots wisdom and field-tested credibility will prove invaluable. TULN, under Bobai’s strategic coordination, is already positioning itself not only as a mobilization force but also as a crucial player in the architecture of reelection strategy.
For those still uncertain about the loyalty of the North West to President Tinubu, recent developments offer persuasive clarity. From the emphatic Kaduna stakeholders’ resolution, to the quiet consolidation of Governor Uba Sani’s political base, and the steady rise of TULN as a mobilizing body and more to come, the signs are all pointing in one direction. The region is not just standing with Tinubu out of sentiment. It is doing so out of a clear understanding of shared interest and continuity of purpose.
The 2027 race will not be shaped by emotion or nostalgia. It will be won by those with a track record of delivery, a structure for reach, and the capacity to inspire trust. President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani bring all three to the table. Their collaboration is not transactional, rather it is transformative.
As the political climate continues to shift, the message from Zaria lingers with quiet resonance. The road ahead may be challenging, but the direction is clear. In this journey to 2027, the North West will follow a path it knows and it will do so by following the leaders who know the road.
