Ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State, the Migili Cultural Development Association has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the deputy governorship position to the ethnic group.

The association urged Governor Abdullahi Sule, who also leads the APC in the state, to consider a Migili indigene as a running mate, saying it would promote inclusion and strengthen unity in the state.

Speaking in Lafia on Sunday, the National President of the association, Abu Ishaq, said the appeal followed wide consultations among stakeholders of the ethnic group, including traditional rulers, youths, and community leaders.

He expressed concern that despite consistent electoral support for successive administrations since 1999, the Migili people had not been given the opportunity to occupy key political offices, particularly the office of deputy governor.

According to him, the community has intensified consultations across traditional institutions in the state to rally support for the demand ahead of the 2027 polls.

He also noted that the Migili population, spread across Lafia, Doma, Obi, Awe, and Keana local government areas, represents a significant voting bloc capable of influencing electoral outcomes.

Ishaq added that the group was united behind what he described as a “collective aspiration,” stressing that the community would mobilise its votes in support of the APC if their demand is considered.

He said youth groups and cultural bodies within the ethnic nationality have also backed the call, urging party leaders to address concerns of political inclusion.

Similarly, Migili youth stakeholders reiterated the appeal during a press briefing in Lafia, calling on the APC leadership to ensure fair representation in the 2027 political arrangement.
