The Ebonyi-First Vanguard, a socio-political group, has cautioned against persistent unconstructive criticisms of the state government by some members of the opposition parties in the state.
The group said that such remarks were capable of undermining the administration of Gov. Francis Nwifuru ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The Director-General of the group, Chief Monday Eze, made the condemnation at a press conference in Abakaliki on Friday, describing the alleged actions as “inciting and unpatriotic”.
The Newsmen report that some members of the opposition parties allegedly criticised the Nwifuru administration on social media and encouraged public office holders and citizens to oppose the present government.
Eze argued that such remarks amounted to promoting actions capable of weakening governance and public institutions in the state.
He stressed that government existed to provide essential services, including infrastructure, education, healthcare and payment of workers’ salaries, and should not be treated as a political target.
He highlighted several achievements of Nwifuru’s administration, including the revival of overseas postgraduate scholarship programmes, payment of gratuity arrears, youth empowerment initiatives, recruitment into the civil service, establishment of specialised universities, and investments in healthcare and infrastructure.
According to him, these achievements have earned the governor widespread support across the state.
The group urged opposition politicians to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than actions capable of destabilising government institutions.
It also called on public servants and residents to remain loyal to the Constitution, reject political sabotage and support democratic processes as preparations for the 2027 elections gathered momentum.
