A second-year Entrepreneurship student at Bamidele Olumilua University of Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere-Ekiti, identified simply as Blessing, has died after reportedly jumping into a well in the Obateru area.
The tragic incident, which has sent shockwaves through the university community, allegedly stemmed from the student’s growing distress over academic setbacks, specifically regarding carryover courses.
Eyewitnesses reported that the student remained in the well for nearly two hours before residents could successfully raise an alarm.
Despite the eventual arrival of the Dean of the Faculty, student leaders, and an ambulance, no immediate rescue was possible.
Following a grueling recovery effort involving a pumping machine to drain the water and a ladder to reach the base of the well, the student was found lifeless. His body has since been conveyed to the state morgue.
