2 Men docked over alleged attempt to steal air-condition in School

The Police on Thursday charged two men, Chibuzor Nwogu, 25, and Ayobami Akintayo, 33, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court , Ibadan, over alleged attempt to steal an air-condition in a Secondary School in Ibadan.

Defendants were charged on two – count of conspiracy and attempt to steal, which they pleaded not guilty to.

The Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, alleged that the defendants conspired together to commit the act of attempted stealing.

Adedosu alleged that the duo of Nwogu and Akintayo on July 15, at about 4.30p.m attempted to steal an air-conditioner at Oba Abass Aleshiloye Grammar School, Eleyele area of Ibadan.

She said the defendants were caught at the scene by the security guard of the school, while the air – condition was retrieved from them and they were handed over to the police .

Adedosu said the offence contravened the provision of Section 509 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. T. Oyediji admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N300, 000 each , with two sureties each in like sum.

Oyediji, thereafter, adjourned the matter until September 8, for hearing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the punishment for attempted stealing is 18 months imprisonment if the defendants were found guilty of the charge.
