The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed a kidnapping incident along the Ayere Kabba Road in Kabba Local Government Area, assuring that security operatives are intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
The incident, which occurred on April 13, involved a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Chisco Transport Company, with registration number KJA 405 YJ, travelling from Lagos to Abuja.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, stated that the vehicle was attacked by armed hoodlums, leading to the abduction of several passengers.
She, however, disclosed that a swift and coordinated response by security operatives led to the rescue of 1 of the victims, identified as Adoun Julius, a 56 year old male, while the vehicle was successfully recovered.
According to the statement, joint security teams comprising the Police, Military, and other agencies have launched sustained bush combing and search and rescue operations to secure the release of the remaining abducted passengers.
The Command further revealed that seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently assisting ongoing investigations.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), supported by other tactical teams, remains actively engaged in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and the swift apprehension of perpetrators,” the statement noted.
The Police urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations advising families of the victims to report to the SCID Headquarters in Lokoja, particularly the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, to assist with identification and investigation processes.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, warning criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law.
Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
