Amotekun foils robbery, neutralise one suspect
…Seizes weapons, cash, stolen goods
Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, disrupted a daring robbery operation in the early hours of Sunday, along the Odogbolu corridor of the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway.
The operation, which unfolded under the cover of darkness, led to the fatal shooting of one suspect, while another, identified as Amechie Okoro, was apprehended after a fierce exchange of gunfire with the security operatives.
In a statement released by the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adeditgba (retd), on Sunday, it was disclosed that the swift and tactical response of the Amotekun operatives led to further breakthroughs in the investigation.
According to the statement, Okoro, who was taken into custody, provided vital information that led to the capture of another gang member, Micheal Oko, who had earlier fled the scene.
“Okoro, upon interrogation, revealed that he had just been released from Ikoyi prison last Monday. His confession opened the doors to further arrests, leading our operatives to the hideout of Micheal Oko, one of the gang members, who had attempted to evade capture,” Brigadier General Adeditgba stated.
The successful raid resulted in the recovery of significant items, including N113,050 in cash, a motorcycle registered in Lagos (KTU 668), 12 different types of mobile phones, two locally made pistols, a silver wristwatch, and a red headphone.
These items were believed to have been stolen from unsuspecting victims during the robbery attempt.
“Despite the unfortunate loss of one suspect, the operatives’ action has dealt a severe blow to the criminal activities in the region. We are confident that this breakthrough will significantly disrupt the operations of this notorious gang,” he said.
The body of the deceased suspect was evacuated by police personnel and deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue for further examination.
The two arrested suspects, Okoro and Oko, have been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution, as the security network continues to intensify its operations to safeguard the state.
