Always be professional while discharging your duty — Army boss charges officers

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Ibadan, Nigerian Army, Gold Chibuisi, has charged officers and personnel of the division to always be professional in discharging their duty.

Chibuisi made the charge on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of 2 Division Inter Brigade Corporal And Below Competition 2022 at 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure.

No fewer than 275 personnel from five formations in the division are participating in the competition which include map reading; weapon handling; combat swimming and drilling.

The formations are 4 Brigade, Benin; 22 Brigade, Ilorin; 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure; 42 Engr. Brigade/52 Sig. Brigade/ Engr. cantonment, Ibadan and 2 Div. Gerison/ 81 Bn(R), Ibadan.

The GOC, who was represented by Brig.- Gen. Umar Abdulkadir Mu’azu, Division Training Officer, said that it was imperative for all the officers and personnel to engage in activities that would help them keep fit in order to fight insurgency in the country.

According to him, training is a pillar upon which institutions and organisations build and develop the capacity of their personnel.

“We will continue to take the advantage of this opportunity to improve on our individual and collective effectiveness in 2 Division in order to be able to achieve the vision of the Chief of Army Staff(COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya.

“The key issues in the vision are professionalism and joint environment. Professionalism require training, which, among others, makes readiness a major component for success in all military operations,” GOC said.

Chibuisi, who appreciated the COAS for providing the logistics for the competition, said the essence of the competition was to improve the physical fitness and promote the spirit of esprit de-corp among soldiers of various formations and units.

He, therefore, called on participants to exhibit the highest standard of discipline as to reflect the core value of excellence expected of the division and the Nigerian Army.

In his opening speech, Brig.-Gen. Mukhtar Adamu, Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, said that the competition was an annual event conducted by the division in line with the Nigerian Army standard.

According to Adamu, the competition is designed to prepare the personnel for battle, especially in tackling the present security challenges in the country

“The goal of the competition is to improve leadership traits, organisation ability, use of initiative and esprit de-corp among personnel in that category,” he said.

Adamu, therefore, appreciated the GOC 2 Division and Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State for their untiring support to the brigade.
