Alleged theft: Two men in court over  motorcycle theft

By Tobi Adetunji.

Two men, Tunde Kareem, 32 and Muri Akibu, 46, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N270,000.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 10 at about 7.00 a.m., at Rasheed Olawale Street, the Bells area, Ota.

Adaraloye said that the defendants conspired to steal a motorcycle belonging to the complainant, Iledu Moses, valued at N270,000.

He said that the defendants were caught by a vigilante group in the process of committing the crime and handed over to the Police.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, admitted the defendants to N50,000 bail each with one surety each in like sum.

She directed that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until March 1, for judgement.
