A 32-year-old man, Obaloluwa Olawale, charged with alleged burglary and stealing of N425,000, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun yesterday.
The defendant, whose house address was not given at time of filling this report, is being tried on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and intended stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp E O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences on Jan.31 at about 12 p.m.at Majek Close, Dalemo Bus-Stop,Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplices conspired to break into the complainant, Adelani Majekayegbe’s house with the intention to steal.
He told the court that members of a vigilance group, who apprehended the defendant in the act, handed him to the police.
The prosecutor said that offences contravened Sections 390,412 and 509 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O.Adeyemi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adeyemi ruled that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.
He further ordered the sureties to show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government to the court’s registrar as part of the bail condition.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until Feb.16 for a definite trial.
