Alleged robbers killed in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of three individuals involved in a case of conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.

Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil provided details via a WhatsApp chat on Tuesday, explaining that on August 18, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, the Misau Local Government Area police were alerted by a Good Samaritan about a body found in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma, near Misau town. Upon arrival, the police discovered that the victim had been killed with a knife and promptly transported the body to General Hospital, Misau, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased was later identified as Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir, a 25-year-old commercial motorcycle operator from Sabon Layi, Misau.

According to Wakil, the victim’s motorcycle had been stolen by suspected robbers. On August 19, 2024, the police arrested two suspects with the stolen motorcycle along the Misau-Kari road. However, a mob intervened, lynching the suspects and burning one of their bodies beyond recognition, though the motorcycle was recovered.

Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed condemned the actions of the mob, criticizing them for taking the law into their own hands rather than allowing the suspects to be investigated by the police. He stressed that such actions are unlawful and detrimental to the country’s legal system. The CP warned that the police will not tolerate vigilante justice and urged residents to let law enforcement handle investigations and prosecutions properly.
