Alleged murder: 50-year-old driver, docked for allegedly killing pedestrian in Ogun

A 50-year-old driver, Ibrahim Elewuro,on Tuesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’Court in Ogun,for allegedly driving a vehicle in a reckless manner that resulted to the death of a pedestrian.
Elewuro,whose address was not provided at the time of filing this report is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and murder.
The prosecutor, Insp Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec.13, 2020 at about 5.00 p.m. at Owode-Ijako area, along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ota.
Mustapha said the defendant being a driver in charge of a Homo trailer with registration number KRD 699 XC drove the vehicle in a reckless and dangerous manner that led to the death of one Adijat Azeez, aged 32years old.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 5 and 6(1) of the Federation Highway Act Cap 135,Laws of Federation, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate,Mr O.L Oke, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum.
Oke directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned to March 17 for further hearing.
