Alleged Ife/Modakeke clash: Osun police call for calm, assure residents of safety

Following the rumour making rounds that Ile-Ife and Modakeke communities of Osun State have swung into fresh crisis, the state Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, has called for calm while assuring residents of the environs of safety.

Earlier, it was reported that five persons were gruesomely murdered on the way to their farms in Modakeke area of the State.

The incident had caused an uproar as residents, who were gripped by palpable fear, peddled the unconfirmed report of fresh crisis between Ile-Ife and Modakeke.

However, in a swift response, the CP had led the Police Response Team and Tactical Unit to the scene of the incident to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

The above was revealed in a signal by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, which was made available to journalists on Friday evening.

The statement read in part: “The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command, CP Olawale Olokode, psc in his usual pragmatic approach to tackle crime and criminalities wishes to assure the residents of Alape via Modakeke area of adequate security coverage as he personally led the Police Response Team and Tactical Unit of the Command to the scene of the incident where about five (5) people were fiercely murdered in the early hour of today 20th August 2021, in order to restore normalcy.

“The CP appeals to the residents of the area to remain calm as the Command is resolute to get to the root cause(s) of the dastardly act and the perpetrator(s) will be brought to book.

“The Commissioner of Police urges the residents of the area to avail the Command credible information that will fast track the arrest of the perpetrator(s) of the evil act.”
