The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Waheed Ayilara, has passed away following prostate cancer surgery at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. According to a family source Ayilara died early on Thursday morning.
The family announced the loss, expressing their deep sorrow, saying, “It is with great sadness that we report the death of our friend, brother, and family member, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara.”
The news of Ayilara’s death was also confirmed by a senior police official in Akwa Ibom State. As of now, the Nigeria Police Force has yet to release an official statement regarding his passing.
Ayilara, who previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, succeeded AIG Idowu Owohunwa. He was appointed to lead the Akwa Ibom State Command by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun in February 2024.
