Akure residents commend Gov. Aiyedatiwa for road rehabilitation efforts
Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has been widely praised by residents of Akure for his dedication to improving road infrastructure in the state capital.
The governor recently carried out an inspection of both completed and ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to urban renewal and infrastructural advancement.
This was stated in a release on Wednesday, signed by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
During his visit, Governor Aiyedatiwa received a warm welcome from residents, who applauded his efforts in transforming the city’s road network. He inspected key project sites, including Iloro-Owe Akala Street, Iro-Odopetu Road, and Alafiatayo-Odole-Odi-Olowo Road, all of which are nearing completion. Additionally, he assessed progress on major projects such as Oda Road, Ijoka Road, and the Shagari-Onyearugbulem Flyover, assuring residents of their timely delivery.
Expressing his satisfaction with the quality of work, Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s dedication to enhancing road infrastructure across all three senatorial districts of the state.
“This is simply the fulfilment of one of our pledges to the people of Ondo State. Today, I am in the Central Senatorial District, where approximately 20 kilometres of road construction is in progress. Specifically, here in Akure South, this 2.3-kilometre road is an essential urban link that has been in a poor state for nearly two decades,” the governor stated.
He further noted that about one kilometre of asphalt overlay had already been completed, with the remaining 1.3 kilometres scheduled for completion within a few days.
Addressing concerns about regional focus, he added, “Some people ask, ‘Why prioritise Akure?’ The reality is that we are executing a total of 60 kilometres of road projects—20 kilometres in each senatorial district. Work is ongoing in both the North and South, and I will soon be visiting those areas as well.”
The Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Gbenga Fasua, described the projects as a transformative development for the city.
“We have witnessed a significant improvement in road infrastructure across Akure. Many of these roads had been in a terrible state for years, making daily life challenging for residents. But today, from Oda to Oke Aro and Odopetu, various parts of Akure are experiencing remarkable progress. We sincerely appreciate the governor for delivering on his promise,” Fasua remarked.
