Akume mourns Labbo, Oneya

The Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs (FMSDIGA), Sen. George Akume has commiserated with the Aliyu Labbo family, the Niger North Senatorial District, the Government and people of Niger State over the demise of Sen. Nuhu Aliyu Labbo and the family of Brigadier General Dominic O. Oneya, Urhobo national, Delta state and the Nigerian Army over the death of Oneye.

This was contained in a recent press release from the Deputy Director, Press, FMSDIGA, Osagie Jacobs Julie.

On Labbo, he said: “Sen. Aliyu served meritoriously and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police before he ventured into politics. He was elected into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for three terms to represent the good people of Niger North Senatorial District between May 1999 to May 2011. As a Senator, he was committed to his legislative duties and as such served as Chairman and member of several committees of the Senate. In May 2003, Sen. Aliyu co-sponsored the Hydro-Electric Power Commission Bill which was passed by the Senate amongst others.”

On Gen. Oneya, he said: “Until his death, Gen Oneya, 73 was an accomplished military officer, a distinguished public servant, loving father, community leader, elder statesman and devout Christian, who devoted his life to the service of God and humanity. As a military administrator of Benue State between 1998 to May 29, 1999, Gen. Oneya served with distinction and left a lot of legacies to his credit. I succeeded him in office on May 29, 1999.

“On behalf of my family, friends, management and staff of the FMSDIGA, we offer our heartfelt condolences to tjeir immediate families and the nation over these great loss of Great Nigerians. While we miss them here on earth, may the Angels walk them home.”
