Akpabio exonerates self from court decision sacking Senator

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has exonerated himself from being responsible for the Court of Appeal decision sacking the Senator representing Adamawa North senatorial district, Ishaku Ellisha Abbo.

The appellate court in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices, set aside the tribunal judgement that earlier affirmed Abbo who contested the election on the platform of the APC, as the valid winner of the senatorial seat.

Abbo had thereafter spoke to Journalists alleging that the Senate President was out to manhunt those who didn’t support his ambition to be the leader of Nigeria’s Senate.

Akpabio, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, said it is uncharitable for Abbo to associate him with his loss at the Appeal Tribunal.

The statement described Abbo’s claims as “delinquent, provocative and unbecoming of a Distinguished Senator.”

He went further, “It is only a diseased and uninformed mind that will not believe that the outcome of any court proceeding is a function of the evaluation of facts and evidence within the province of the rule of law.

“It is uncharitable for Senator Abbo to pour his frustrations on Senator Akpabio or anyone else and his action betrays the bile he has for Senator Akpabio.

“Democracy is founded in the rule of law, so for anybody to accuse one of the strong agents of democracy and governance in the mould of Senator Godswill Akpabio, such an individual must be a monument of self-pity and his swansong a discordant escape from reality.”

The statement further said Akpabio for has no ill-will towards any of his distinguished colleagues adding that as he said in the past, the embers of the leadership election have been buried and replaced by the fraternal bond of nation building he shares with the overwhelming majority of senators.

NPO Reported Abbo on Monday as accusing the Senate President of targeting members who opposed Akpabio’s bid to become the senate president adding that more senators, including former Governor of Abia, Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, is next in line to shown the way out of the senate.

Abbo had said, “I have it from a reliable source that myself and four other senators within the fold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be removed from the Senate through rulings from the courts, all because of working against the emergence of Akpabio as President of the 10th Senate.

“I won’t mention the names of all the four other ones targeted but the next in line is Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,” he said.

He wondered how with over 11,000 votes margin of victory he had above his closest river, Yohanna Amos Yohanna of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election, the Appeal Court upturned his victory.

“The court judgement is strange and the judiciary needs to please remain the last hope of the common man,” Abbo said
