Aiyedatiwa warns Ondo NURTW against joining planned protest

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has urged members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and residents of the state not to participate in the planned August 1st nationwide protest, citing concerns of violence and destruction of properties.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, speaking through his Special Adviser on Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, said the planned protest is targeted at destroying lives and properties, citing the recent Kenyan experience and EndSars protest.

“We don’t want any pandemonium in our state; bye-bye to any protest; we should not join any protest in this state; we want peace in Ondo State and South West in general,” Taiwo said.

The governor appealed to NURTW members to shun the protest in the interest of the state and her people.

“During the EndSars protest, a lot of properties were destroyed in this nation, and we look at what is happening in Kenya, it is devastating, and that is why we are engaging the members of the NURTW; we don’t want that here,” Taiwo added.

Comrade Ademola Odudu, the state chairman of the union, said members of the union would not join the protest. “We have addressed all our members not to join the protest that could lead to any breaking of laws and orders because we are not troublemakers, we are not thugs, and we are very responsible,” Odudu said.

Odudu also stated that the protest is aimed at destabilising the government of President Bola Tinubu.

“In Ondo State, for instance, we have a good governor, and he is a man of peace who is making sure that we have peace in the state, and we have addressed all our members not to be involved in the protest,” he said.

The union has warned that any member caught participating in the planned protest will be sanctioned accordingly.
