
Aiyedatiwa sets up panel to investigate Ugbo-Ugbonla communal clashes
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has constituted a six-member panel of inquiry to investigate the recent communal crisis in the Ugbonla community, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The development comes in the wake of violent clashes between factions in the Ugbo-Ugbonla axis over traditional leadership disputes, which reportedly led to loss of lives and destruction of property.
According to a statement signed by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the panel is mandated to uncover both the remote and immediate causes of the conflict and determine the roles played by individuals or groups in the unrest.
The Governor stressed that the panel would also make recommendations to prevent similar crises in the future and offer any other suggestions based on their findings.
The panel is chaired by Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi, with other members including Justice Orimisan Okorisa, Primate Afolabi Aboyewa, Hon. Hamidu Takuro, Barr. Yinka Orokoto, and Mr. Dele Adesanmi, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who will serve as secretary.
Governor Aiyedatiwa charged the panel members to handle the assignment with “utmost commitment” and to “discharge their duties without fear or favour.”
He also urged residents of the affected communities to maintain peace and cooperate fully with the panel to ensure a smooth and productive investigation.
