Airtel rolls out 5G broadband services, affordable phone

Leading telecommunications provider, Airtel Nigeria has launched its 5G broadband services in the country.
Airtel’s 5G launch increases the number of 5G providers in Nigeria to three. In 2021, MTN Nigeria and Mafab Nigeria Communications Limited won the two available lots of 100 MHz TDD slots of the 3.5 GHz band.
At a media launch in Lagos, the telecommunications provider unveiled the 5G broadband router in partnership with ZTE and Huawei.
Airtel revealed that the 5G being launched uses non-stand alone technology which is the best for 5G in use globally.
Airtel Nigeria’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Femi Oshinlaja also noted that Airtel has partnered with Samsung Nigeria in consideration of the high cost of purchasing a 5G enabled phone in Nigeria.
He said that consumers just need to purchase the Airtel 5G router and a 5G enabled phone to able to browse using 5G.
“We have partnered with Samsung Nigeria as an OEM partner. With our OEM partner, we have brought device pricing to #122,000 and we are in discussion with other OEM’s”. Mr Femi Oshinlaja said while commenting on the partnership with Samsung.
