Airtel Africa and Transnational Corporation Limited (TRANSCORP) Plc led the list of gainers at Tuesday’s trading which is the first for the year at the Nigerian Exchange.
TRANSCORP’s stock price opened at N8.66 but closed at N9.52 representing a 0.86 percent increase in value.
Airtel Africa Plc also recorded a surge in its share price from N1887 to N2000 representing over 112 percent increase.
The telecommunications giant also had 74 trades for the market day valued at N741.78 million.
The total volume traded advanced by 39.93 percent to close at N515.81 million, valued at N5.57 billion and traded in 9,370 deals. MBENEFIT was the most traded stock by volume with N101.63 million.
The Nigerian stock market closed higher by 1,217.11 basis points, indicating a positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index now at 1.63 percent advanced by 1.63 percent, closing at 75,990.88 basis points, compared to the previous day’s gain of 0.36 percent, which closed at 74,773.77 basis points. The NGX Market CAP also recorded a gain of N665.98 billion in Naira terms.
The Gote Index advanced by 0.10 percent to close at 183.33, while the Toni index advanced by 2.75 percent to close at 503.76 basis points.
At the close of trading, the market recorded 49 gainers, 17 losers, and 53 unchanged. AIICO topped the gainers list, while CADBURY topped the list of losers.
