Afe Babalola has criticized President Tinubu, accusing him of turning Nigerians into beggars with his palliative measures
Senior Advocate of Nigeria Afe Babalola has voiced his dissatisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of turning hardworking Nigerians into beggars by fostering an environment where the government continually dispenses handouts. Babalola argues that these palliative measures only perpetuate poverty and force Nigerians to rely on the President for survival.
He made these remarks at his university in Ado-Ekiti while addressing the Prestige Sisters League, who had visited to express their gratitude. Babalola used the occasion to discuss the recent hunger protests, affirming that the concerns raised were genuine and that the government should heed them.
Babalola criticized the government for distributing basic food items like gari, beans, and rice as palliatives, asserting that such measures only deepen poverty and discourage self-sufficiency. He emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to create an environment that enables people to work and support themselves.
Regarding the push for a new Constitution by The Patriots, Babalola supported their call but opposed the need for a new constitutional conference. He suggested that the National Assembly could simply reenact the 1963 Constitution, which he believes is a well-established framework for Nigeria’s governance.
