The Jigawa State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has raised concerns over alleged fraudulent activities involving extortion from farmers across the state by certain individuals.
In a press statement issued by the state chairman, Engineer Auwal Garba Ibrahim, the association vowed to identify the suspected fraudsters and ensure they face legal consequences.
The association expressed dismay at reports of individuals impersonating AFAN leaders and going around the state collecting money from farmers, claiming it was for registration in a special agricultural intervention programme. However, the programme being mentioned by these fraudsters is fake and does not exist, according to Engr Auwal.
He called on farmers to report any such individuals to the nearest AFAN executive or security agency, warning that these fraudulent activities could undermine the trust between farmers and their leaders and negatively affect both state and federal agricultural policies.
“We want to make it clear that the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Jigawa State Chapter, does not engage in such practices, and we do not charge farmers for any services or support programmes provided by the Federal or State Government or any other organisation,” the statement said.
“We strongly condemn this illegal, inhumane, and unethical behaviour. The individuals involved in this extortion scheme are not legitimate leaders or agents of our association in any capacity.”
The association urged farmers and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities or their office immediately.
