Adire experts seek Ogun govt’s support

Adire experts in Ogun state have appealed to the state government to provide training and support for entrepreneurs to access skills on adire fashion to drive the industry and improve the livelihoods of communities.
One of the frontliners in the Fashion industry and also the organiser of the notable Ogun Adire Fashion show, Adeyemi Heritage said that government should support small firms to move up the value chain with potential for growth and development.
Adeyemi equally wants the state government to upgrade the textile design and fashion production hub in the state.
This, he said will unveil manufacturing needs, assets, and opportunities available in the adire sector, such as job creation and neighbourhood development for small to mid-size firms.
He said, Ogun Adire Fashion show is a platform that promotes and showcases the Yoruba rich cultural heritage, urging for the support of the state towards hosting this year edition.
He added that the project started in 2016 which is to actualize the colourful world of Adire and to educate the general public on the uses of Adire textile.
Adeyemi stressed that adire was no longer limited to being used as clothing material alone, adding that It is now being used creatively in different ways, this, he said would boost the economy of the state if properly explored.
Stating some of other benefits of Adire, he hinted, “You can use it to make notebooks, throw pillows, wall arts, lamp stands and backpacks. We are therefore calling on the Ogun state government to see and tap into the plethora of opportunities available in the adire industry. If this is considered it will help to boost the economy of the state.”
