Adesua raises alarm about threat to his life, house destroyed
Olalekan Adesua, the younger brother of the late Oladiran Adesua, a former Commissioner for Urban Development in Ekiti State, has spoken out about ongoing threats to his life, which he believes are linked to political tensions in the state. Oladiran Adesua passed away on June 16, 2024, with his untimely death believed to be connected to political intrigues in the region.
Oladiran, a seasoned politician and strong ally of the progressives in Ekiti, had appointed his younger brother, Olalekan, as his personal assistant during his tenure. Olalekan has claimed that his late brother had shielded him from political enemies, and now, with Oladiran’s death, his own safety is at risk.
In a recent interview, Olalekan recounted a disturbing encounter with unknown political thugs. “As a strong political figure in the party and in the state, the current Governor had promised to compensate our family with a new political appointment for me,” he said. “However, this decision was met with fierce opposition from the political enemies of my late brother, who sought to block the Governor’s gesture.”
According to Olalekan, these political adversaries attempted to harm him when the Governor’s offer was made. He described a harrowing experience in September, when gunmen came to his home in Ado-Ekiti searching for him. “Luckily, I was out of state at the time. Unable to find me, they set my house on fire in frustration,” he revealed. “My wife, who was home at the time, narrowly escaped. She saw the gunmen approaching and, fearing for her life, fled through the back door, scaling the perimeter fence before they could reach her.”
Olalekan expressed concern for his safety, stating that he continues to receive threatening calls from anonymous individuals, whom he believes are connected to the political faction targeting him. “I can’t reveal my location at the moment because I am still being pursued by these faceless people,” he added.
His revelations paint a picture of political unrest in Ekiti, where the legacy of his late brother’s political influence continues to attract opposition and threats.
