Adeleke releases funds for rehabilitation, upgrade of moribund State Cooperative College

By Ismail Azeez, Osogbo

The Commissioner for Cooperative and Employment, Prince Adebayo Ogungbangbe, announced on Tuesday that Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the rehabilitation and upgrading of the State Cooperative College in Ode-Omu, located in Ayeedade Local Government Area of Osun State.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, the state capital, Ogungbangbe highlighted that Governor Adeleke has allocated substantial funds for the renovation of the college. He emphasised that the condition of the State Cooperative College had deteriorated significantly before the current administration took office.

Ogungbangbe noted a marked decline in student admissions due to neglect during the previous administration. He credited the interventions under Governor Adeleke’s leadership for revitalising interest in the college among prospective students.

“In response to Governor Adeleke’s directive, funds have been released for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the long-neglected Ode-Omu Cooperative College,” Ogungbangbe stated.

He expressed optimism that the college, established 33 years ago to benefit the community and the entire state, will be ready for an official reopening during the second anniversary of Governor Adeleke’s administration.

“The school is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and we have begun the process of upgrading it with the Governor’s approval,” he added, anticipating increased student enrollment when the college reopens for the new academic session in September.

Regarding cooperative and empowerment initiatives, Ogungbangbe highlighted Governor Adeleke’s commitment to stimulating the local economy and alleviating hardship. He pointed out that the first Osun State Cooperative Summit held in January 2024 resulted in significant decisions, including the allocation of One Billion Naira to the cooperative sector.

He expressed satisfaction with the implementation progress, noting that each of the 332 Ward-based Cooperative Societies in the state has received One Million Naira to support their activities.

The initiatives under Governor Adeleke’s administration aim to empower artisans, rural residents, market traders, and cooperative societies across Osun State, reflecting a concerted effort to foster economic growth and community development.
