The Adamawa State Police Command have apprehended a man who climbed a 33KV high-tension electricity pole to call for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu.
The incident took place in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The man remained on the pole, insisting he would not come down until President Tinubu resigns.
It was reported on Monday morning that the incident occurred between the morning of Friday, September 27, and the evening of Saturday, September 28.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguruje, stated that the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rescued on Saturday night and taken into police custody in the state capital, Yola.
“The Command will parade the man today (Monday) for attempting suicide,” Nguruje said, noting that attempting suicide is a criminal offense under Nigeria’s constitution.
“We will charge him to court,” Nguruje asserted. He emphasised the importance of holding individuals accountable for such actions.
He added that the police have a duty to protect lives and property, stating that anyone who attempts to take their own life must face legal consequences.
Further details reveal that on Friday morning, the market day in Mayo-Belwa, the man climbed the 33KV high-tension pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway, demanding President Tinubu’s resignation.
The state police command enlisted the help of local residents to persuade him to come down, successfully convincing him to descend on Saturday night.
