Accident: FRSC urges motorists to obey traffic rules to reduce mishaps
The Ogun Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to obey traffic rules for categories of their vehicles and also ensure proper maintenance to reduce mishaps on the highway.
Mr Ahmed Umar, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, gave the advice while speaking with on Thursday in Ota, Ogun.
Newsmen reports that a lone accident which involved a Mazda bus marked AGL 886 YG, claimed seven lives and injured other seven, after the vehicles burst into flame due to mechanical fault on Sagamu-Benin Expressway on Wednesday.
He was reacting to the accident where seven persons were burnt to death and other seven sustained various injuries on Wednesday along Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
The sector commander noted that the tragedy could have been averted if the driver cautioned himself against speeding and also ensure the vehicle was in good shape before embarking on the journey.
Umar blamed the cause of the unfortunate incident on speeding and poor maintenance of the vehicle.
“The tragedy occurred due to mechanical fault and non compliance with traffic rules on the part of the driver.
“We are therefore appealing to motorists to always obey traffic rules and ensure that their vehicles were in good shape before embarking on any journey.
“The FRSC consoled with the families of the accident victims and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the losses.” he said.
Umar reiterated the commitment of the corps to continue to make the road safer for motoring public through aggressive public enlightenment across the state.
