ABUTH resident doctors suspend 5-day warning strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) branch,  has suspended a five-day warning strike over the nonpayment of salaries owed some members.

Dr Ashiru Mikail, Vice-President of the association, on Tuesday in Zaria said that the strike was suspended on Monday evening.

He said that the resident doctors had resumed work at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to him, the strike was suspended following a marathon meeting between the association and the management of ABUTH.

“There was a serious commitment from the part of the management to address the demands of the association; the management had pledged to stop percentage salary payments to our members.

“The meeting had also charted robust initiatives to curtail further industrial disharmony between the association and ABUTH management,” he said.

The association had embarked on a 5-day warning strike on July 22, to protest percentage salary payments for members on the GIFMIS platform, nonpayment of accoutrement allowance among others.
