By Matthew Denis, Abuja

Tension has continued to mount as landowners and tenets in Expansion Layout in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja are decrying against illegal structures erected on their access roads.

The landlords and tenets have accused the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Development Control, among other relevant agencies of negligent in curbing the activities of these miscreants despite the fact that several petitions have been written to them since 2014.

In a reminder letter open letter Signed by the Community leader Mr. Onoja Sylvester to the Minister and made available to Nigerian NewsDirect reads “Closure of our access road due to erection of buildings and illegal sales of residential plots on access road to the Minister of FCT and the Director, Department of Urban & Regional Planning Federal Capital Development Agency dated July 5th, 2021 made available to this medium reads; We humbly call your attention on the above subject matter.

“We have been cut off from our access road as stipulated by the master plan of expansion layout Gwagwalada. We are now finding it difficult to go out of our residences as road networks has deliberately been sold off to unsuspecting buyers by land agents while the relevant authorities who should be watch dogs turn deaf ear to our cries.

“This has been on since 2014 when these activities started. We have written several letters while these illegal developments are still going on even after the development control has marked ‘stop work’.

“The owner of an alternative compound used by the Community a access way out have fenced their compound . Apart from series of estate and buildings we have two major schools using this road network.

“During this raining season, it’s a major problem maneuvering these roads but it has totally been blocked by these illicit structures.

“We are appealing to you to kindly find a lasting solution to this problem to open the existing roads network as designed in the master plan.
