Abuja: Man, 26, arraigned for allegedly stealing building materials worth N358,500

A 26-year-old man, Henry Sunday, was arraigned in a Grade I Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja on Tuesday for allegedly stealing building materials valued at N358,500.

Sunday is charged with joint act and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Station by one Uchenna Nwafor, the complainant.

Nwafoaku said that the defendant, sometime in June jointly planned with his gang members currently at large and broke into Nwafor’s shop

He added that Sunday and his gang stole 12mm rod and 63 length square rod, valued at N144, 900 as well as 10mm 17-length rod, valued at N30, 000.

The prosecutor alleged further that the defendant and his gang also stole 7 length of 3-inch round pipes, valued at N105, 500, 7-length of 1.5 square pipe, valued at N75, 000.

Nwafoaku stated that one sheet of Shaka plate, valued at N18, 000, 2 by 2 angle iron, valued at N56, 000 and one inch of angle iron, valued at N24, 000, were also carted away from the complainant’s shop.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the provision of Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Mr Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 and one surety in like sum.

Kagarko adjourned the matter until Oct.10 for hearing.
