Abuja kidnapping crisis: Wike authorises demolition of uncompleted structures

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has given area councils in the nation’s capital the authorisation to demolish uncompleted structures.

Wike announced the authorisation during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in the Gwagwalada area council on Friday.

He said the demolition would help remove uncompleted structures criminals are using as their safe havens and hideouts.

“By Monday (22nd January 2024), the chairman should bring the letter for me to approve the demolition of uncompleted structures where criminals are hibernating. Don’t behave like civil servants. Today is Friday. Ensure you bring the letter by Monday, and I will happily approve it,” Wike said.

DAILY POST reports that Wike said some kidnappers’ informants have been arrested in the FCT amid rising insecurity.

Recall that tension gripped an Abuja community after kidnappers killed three of 10 abducted victims over the delay in the payment of over N700 million ransom.
