Abraka set for 2017 Easter International Polo


Preparations have been concluded for the forthcoming Abraka International Polo tournament, Nigeria’s number one privately organized polo tournament that holds at the serene Abraka Turf and Country Club in Abraka, Delta State every Easter holiday.

Sponsored by Ashton Wells Table Water, the prestigious Abraka event which galloped off Friday, April14, 2017 and ends with fanfare on Sunday, April 17, is reputed for its competition, excitement and pomp.

The unique fiesta that features polo players from around the world and some of the best local players has been staged annually on the turf since1996.

Part of the major attractions this year, would be an icebreaker evening, buffet and cocktail as part of the offerings. “Our guests are sure for a good time in the Niger Delta this Easter,” the Manager concluded.

So far, the annual polo fiesta 2017 edition is living up to its highly revered billing and is bracing to leave in its trail legacies of how polo buffs and holiday makers captured the three days of tempestuous excitement on and off the pitch.

This optimism was boosted with the confirmation by Abraka Turf proprietor, Prince Albert Esiri that preparations are in top gear to celebrate a special Easter holiday at the turf this year.

“Yes we are looking forward to another exciting time at the turf this Easter and we are expecting all our friends from across the globe for the grand event.”

This year, about five teams loaded with all the big polo patrons and top Nigerian players and their foreign counterparts, are vying for four traditional titles.

As usual, glittering prizes will be at stake, but inevitably, it is the Patrons Trophy with another scintillating parade of world class players that has got polo fans salivating at the guaranteed prospect of yet another Abraka high goal extravaganza. Others include the International Gold and Conservation Cup.

Top Nigerian polo patrons and popular players like Dawule Baba, Prince Albert Esiri, Bello Buba,  Jamilu Mohammed, Anthony Isodje, Kwasi from Ghana, Ali Birjawi, Michael Ogolo Sani Umar and Hassan Fayad,  among others are listed for action.

The grand finale of the event to be decided on the lush lawn of the exotic resort will be packed full with high personalities who come in their droves to be part of the tourney. The long list of personalities expected includes Special Guest of Honour, The Ovie of Umiaghwa Abraka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, AVM Lucky Ochuko Ararile (rtd.)
