Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated his commitment to prioritising the health and well-being of residents of the state.

Abiodun assured that his government would continue to promote sustainable industrial waste management practices to safeguard the environment and public health.

He made the declaration during the recently concluded two-day workshop organised by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The workshop, themed, “Enhancing Industrial Waste Management for a Sustainable Future: Regulatory Compliance, Public Health, and Global Practices,” was designed for health, safety, and environmental personnel in industries.

Represented by his Deputy, Noimot Oyedele, the governor highlighted Ogun’s position as Nigeria’s industrial hub, stressing the importance of adherence to global best practices for waste management to protect the environment.

He urged industries operating within the state to adopt innovative waste management strategies that align with both national and global standards.

The Governor also encouraged industries to foster stronger relationships with the communities they operate in.

He reaffirmed that the government would not compromise the health of residents or the integrity of the state’s ecosystem.

Addressing the participants, Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring a healthy and safe environment in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 9.

He encouraged the participants to leverage the knowledge gained from the workshop to stay abreast of global waste management trends.
