Abia records 30 fire outbreaks in 2 months – Chief Fire Officer

 

Thirty fire outbreaks have been recorded in different parts of Abis State between December 2023 to date.

This disclosure was made by the Chief Fire Officer of Abia State, Mr Arua Nnanna.

Nnanna who attributed the high figure of incidents to the period of intense heat and hot wind, told Abia residents to be more conscious about fire.

He advised households and business owners to be careful about handling inflammable materials, avoid indiscriminate bush burning and also to unplug their electrical appliances after use.

The Chief Fire Officer who encouraged residents and business owners to install fire fighting gadgets in their homes and shops, said it would help tackle fire outbreaks before the arrival of fire fighters.

Nnanna further told residents to promptly inform his office about any fire outbreak, reiterating his men’s readiness to respond immediately.

He pointed out that Abia State Fire Service has been receiving the necessary support from the present administration to stop fire disasters.

Newmen  recalls that fire gutted some sections of two markets in Aba in December 2023, where millions of naira worth of goods were destroyed.

Also, a shopping complex at No.2. C Aba Road Umuahia was also destroyed by fire in December, leaving 70 million goods in debris.
