Abia Govt to take strong action against traditional rulers shielding criminals
The Abia State Government has announced plans to intensify efforts to combat criminal activities by scrutinising traditional rulers who may be harbouring criminals.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Okey Kanu, made this disclosure during a news briefing on Wednesday in Umuahia, following the State Executive Council meeting.
Kanu explained that security forces would conduct raids in areas where criminals are suspected to be sheltered, based on credible intelligence. He stressed that traditional rulers who protect criminals would face the full consequences of the law.
He called on town unions and traditional rulers to take their responsibilities seriously by ensuring security and vigilance within their communities.
He also referred to a recent kidnapping incident in Ukwa involving a prominent business mogul, stating that the victim had been released and was in good health.
Kanu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate security agencies.
