Abducted medical doctor, Zubair Erubu regains freedom

Dr Zubair Erubu, the District Head of Erubu community in Kwara State has regained freedom from his abductors.

Newsmen recall that the retired permanent secretary was abducted last Thursday at his Ago-Oja residence in Asa Local Government Area of the State.

Zubair, who was operating a private hospital in Ilorin, the State capital, regained freedom in the early hours of Thursday.

SP Ajayi Okesanmi, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, while confirming the development in a statement, stated that the gunmen laid an ambush for Dr Zubair Erubu while he was returning home from his hospital.

The hoodlums had demanded a ransom of N60m from his family.

According to the Police spokesman, “The release was made possible with the cooperation of the victim’s family members, the community and other security stakeholders, vigilantes and hunters.”

He assured that a detailed report will be made public as soon as it is available.

He was silent on whether ransom was paid for the release of the district head.

Erubu has been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
