Abaji Attack: Police confirm one dead, nine injured

No fewer than one person has been confirmed dead while nine others sustained various degrees of injuries at Abaji market attack by unknown armed bandit in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State.
DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine, Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident in a press release made available to Nigerian NewDirect on Thursday.
She explained that at about 6:30pm of Wednesday while traders were closing from Abaji market in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State, bandits who disguised themselves as buyers in the market started shooting sporadically and in the process one person was killed leaving nine others with various degrees of injuries.
PPRO further explained that joint operation and other security agencies code-named Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), opened fire and repelled the bandits to their forest hideout with gunshot injuries where they have been cordoned for search.
According to the release, corpse of the deceased has been deposited at Primary Health Care Center Abaji while the injured persons are receiving medical attention at General Hospital Katsina-Ala.
The release further stated that more patrol teams were drafted to the scene immediately to assist officers on the ground while search operation is in progress.
