A shop and 2 churches affected in Oyo fire incident
On Tuesday, the Oyo State Fire Service reported a fire outbreak at No. 51 Debo Plaza, located opposite Lam Adesina Junction in Felele, Ibadan, the state capital. The fire affected two churches—a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and New Covenant Church—as well as a furniture shop situated in the same area.
Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, provided details about the incident. He explained that the fire largely consumed plastic chairs and PVC materials used for ceiling decorations. Akinyinka commended the swift response of the firefighters, who managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The fire service’s prompt action was crucial in mitigating further damage, ensuring that adjacent properties were not impacted by the flames. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage to the affected churches and furniture shop are still under investigation.
