A day of agony: Commuters attacked

On Friday 19th of August, 2022 at about 6: 00am in the morning around Kara Village Cow market, opposite the OPIC Estate on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway between Lagos and Ogun State, some daredevil bandits attacked commuters after double crossing a car in the front and firing into the air to scare other vehicles and passers-by. Two cars and two other commercial buses were eventually held up and as the rouges were robbing the occupants of the vehicles, assistance came their way luckily from another sets of cars coming  in a convoy of armed men, precisely military men. The convoy also shot sporadically, and the bandits hastily drove off but they could not be pursued because of the need to rescue those who were waylaid, traumatised and sustained serious injuries from the scene. As at the time of the intervention of the convoy, there was no dead commuters or any casualties of sorts but some were seriously injured and transported to the nearest hospital.

The occupant of the first car held up, Mr Oluyemi Ojeyomi who was injured on one part  of his arm and had some of his possessions stolen told our correspondent that the masked men were kidnappers, who told him at long last Mr. Ojeyomi we got you. But for their greediness with intentions to rob others, he said, they would have successfully taken him away, but after tying his hands and blindfolding him they were busy shouting everybody come down, raise up your hands and close your eyes on other persons in the other vehicles. The other people involved came out of their vehicles, knelt down, raised up their hands and closed their eyes according to another eye witness when they heard another volley of sporadic shooting coming from the back and they were all confused and surprised when the attackers suddenly sped off only to realize that they have been luckily saved by the military men attached to the convoy coming behind them.

Our correspondent affirmed from Mr Ismaila Yekinni, one of the drivers of the commercial vehicle involved that apart from some passengers with gunshot wounds, others were physically injured because of the stampede experienced in disembarking from the vehicle. He further said that there is need to deploy more Police patrol and other  security personnel on the road in order to ensure adequate and appropriate safety of commuters from the roving bandits along the said road and its environs because it is now getting rampant.
