Tinubu directs investigation into Damboa military base attack
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed a thorough investigation into the recent terrorist attack on a military base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.
The attack, carried out on Monday by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province insurgents, claimed the lives of six soldiers.
Commending the armed forces for their swift response, particularly the air component’s retaliatory strikes, Tinubu said the counteroffensive resulted in the significant neutralization of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.
“The resolute action by our military underscores their capability and readiness to confront and defeat threats to Nigeria’s security,” the President remarked.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized the importance of the investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack, noting that it should serve as a lesson to prevent future occurrences.
“Their actions testify to our commitment to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians,” he said.
The President also directed the military to intensify proactive operations against bandits and terrorists in the Northwest, where criminal activities continue to threaten the lives and properties of innocent villagers.
Expressing profound sympathy for the loss of six brave soldiers, Tinubu extended his condolences to their families and pledged that their sacrifices in defense of the nation would never be forgotten.
“On behalf of a grateful nation, I extend heartfelt gratitude and sympathy to our military and security forces. Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this fight to eliminate these threats,” he added.
