Tinubu meets with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Villa

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, met with China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This engagement is part of Wang Yi’s two-day working visit to Nigeria, aimed at deepening ties between the two nations. He is expected to deliver a special message from the Chinese President at the Presidential Villa.

Earlier, Wang Yi and his delegation met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The discussions centred on expanding collaboration in key areas such as trade, investment, health, technology, and infrastructure development.

Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to building a stronger partnership with China. He highlighted the significance of President Tinubu’s visit to China in September 2024, where four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed.

Tuggar noted that the implementation of these agreements remains on track, underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to fostering economic growth through strategic partnerships.

Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, described his visit as a continuation of discussions initiated at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit held last year. He emphasised the importance of Nigeria-China relations and expressed China’s willingness to support Nigeria’s developmental goals.

The meetings mark a significant step in enhancing Nigeria-China relations. Both countries are working towards consolidating agreements that promise to bolster Nigeria’s economic growth and technological advancement. The visit reflects the mutual commitment of the two nations to achieving sustainable development through collaboration.
