The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched a new initiative aimed at addressing the persistent traffic congestion and improving road safety in the state.

The “Whistle” app, introduced on Monday, allows Lagos residents to report traffic offences, reckless driving, one-way violations, and other disruptive incidents directly to LASTMA.

Speaking at the launch of the app, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, highlighted the app’s potential in making Lagos roads safer.

“Whether you are stuck in traffic, witnessing an accident, or encountering a dangerous vehicle, users can quickly alert nearby LASTMA personnel,” Bakare-Oki explained.

“Once we receive these reports, our teams will act swiftly—whether it’s clearing traffic, managing accident scenes, or removing obstructive vehicles. This is our way of ensuring a smoother and safer commute for everyone.”

Bakare-Oki pointed out that one of the major causes of traffic issues in the city is drivers’ disregard for traffic laws. “Many traffic challenges arise from simple violations, such as ignoring traffic signals or driving on one-way streets. With this app, residents can now report these offences, and we can act promptly,” he said.

The app, which is available for download on the Google Play Store, is designed to reduce traffic bottlenecks and enhance safety.

Bakare-Oki reiterated, “Whether you are stuck in traffic, witnessing an accident, or encountering a dangerous vehicle, users can quickly alert nearby LASTMA personnel. Upon receiving these reports, the agency will take swift action to manage the situation, whether it’s clearing traffic, handling accident scenes, or removing obstructive vehicles, ensuring a safer and more efficient commute.”

He also stressed that many traffic issues in Lagos stem from drivers disregarding traffic laws, such as ignoring signals or driving on one-way streets. With the Whistle app, residents now have a direct and effective way to report these infractions.

“We encourage the public to use the app and assist us in making Lagos roads safer and more orderly. Once reports are verified, our teams will deploy resources to address the issues promptly,” Bakare-Oki added.

The Whistle app is available for download on the Play Store, and LASTMA urges residents to use it to help reduce traffic bottlenecks and ensure a smoother festive season for all.
