Man declared wanted for alleged same-sex relationship

A man, Abraham Esemuede has been declared wanted by the Delta State Police command.after being implicated in a covert same-sex relationship that has rocked his family and the wider community.

He is accused of being involved in a secret romantic affair with Ufuoma Oghojafor.

Recall that Nigerian Police Delta State raided an alleged gay wedding, which Ufuoma was one of the organisers in the southern city of Warri in Delta state, and 67 people were arrested the authorities said in a statement, following a tipoff from a person who both of them have been together several years.  The affair reportedly began in late 2020,

According to reports, Esemuede Abraham’s name was mentioned during the interrogation of those arrested, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt for him.

The case has raised serious concerns about the dangers of secretive relationships, especially in regions where same-sex unions are prohibited by law.

Meanwhile, the other accused individuals have been taken to court, and the case has been adjourned until next year, 2025.

As of now, he remains at large, and police have intensified their search, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to his arrest.

Authorities have urged individuals to be cautious of engaging in activities that could violate the law, stressing that same-sex marriages and relationships are still illegal in Nigeria, with potential legal penalties for those found participating in or facilitating such events
