PDP expels suspended National Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Oguduokwor Ward in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has announced the expulsion of Ali Odefa, the suspended National Vice Chairman of the party in the Southeast.
Odefa was initially suspended from the party on 11th September 2024 by the ward executives over allegations of anti-party activities. The suspension was later upheld by the Federal High Court in Abakaliki on 29th November 2024.
At a press conference on Wednesday evening, Onyeka Ovuta, the Acting Chairman of the PDP Oguduokwor Ward, alongside other ward executives, confirmed that the expulsion of Odefa followed the recommendation of the party’s disciplinary committee, which had affirmed the allegations of anti-party conduct.
According to Ovuta, Odefa’s expulsion was in line with the findings and recommendations of the Ward Disciplinary Committee and was supported by the provisions of the party constitution.
The party’s statement, in part, read: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oguduokwor Ward, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, hereby announces the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa, the suspended National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South East Zone from the party, with immediate effect.”
It continued, “Odefa’s expulsion follows the report, findings, and recommendations of the Ward Disciplinary Committee, which is in line with the provisions of the party constitution. Recall that Chief Ali Odefa was suspended from the party by the Ward leadership on 11th September 2024.
“Consequently, the judgement of the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, in suit number FHC/AI/CS/182/2024, affirmed the suspension of Chief Ali Odefa. Following deliberations, the Disciplinary Committee of the PDP Oguduokwor Ward unanimously recommended that Chief Ali Odefa be expelled from the party.”
The statement concluded, “On 11th December 2024, after receiving the report, findings, and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee, the Executive Committee of the PDP Oguduokwor Ward unanimously approved the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa from the party, in compliance with section 58(1) and section 59(1) of the PDP constitution. Henceforth, Chief Ali Odefa ceases to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
