In a move to strengthen the nation’s educational system, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday announced a significant budgetary allocation for the sector.
During his presentation of the N49.7 trillion 2025 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly, the President revealed that the Federal Government has earmarked N826.90 billion for infrastructural development across the country’s educational institutions in the coming fiscal year.
“Our administration has so far disbursed N34 billion to over 300,000 students via the Nigeria Education Loan Fund,” Tinubu stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on students pursuing higher education.
In addition to the N826 billion allocation for infrastructure, the 2025 budget also includes provisions for the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme and the establishment of nine new higher educational institutions.
The president emphasised that these provisions are part of a wider vision to address key developmental challenges, stating, “We are convinced that Universal Health Coverage initiatives will strengthen primary healthcare systems across Nigeria.
“Similarly, we have allocated N402 billion for healthcare infrastructure and another N282.65 billion for the Basic Health Care Fund.”
