Jigawa College of Education settles N17m outstanding payments for casual workers

The management of Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel, has lauded the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for his prompt release of N17.03 million to settle outstanding payments for 203 casual workers disengaged in 2023.

The funds were disbursed after a thorough screening of the workers by a committee set up by the college.

In a statement issued on November 25, 2024, Malam Bala Isyaku, the college registrar, confirmed that the payments to the affected staff began last Friday through the United Bank for Africa (UBA).

He revealed that a total of 14 staff members have yet to appear for screening, urging them to do so to ensure they receive their due payments.

“This payment is in line with Governor Namadi’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers and transforming the education sector in the state,” said Isyaku, who also expressed gratitude to the governor for his unwavering support.

The release of the N17.03 million is expected to bring relief to the workers who have been awaiting their payment for nearly a year, following their disengagement.

The college has since begun processing the funds, with plans for further screenings of outstanding staff to ensure all eligible beneficiaries are paid.

Professor Nura Muhammed Ringim, the Provost of the College, also thanked Governor Namadi for his intervention, acknowledging the critical role the payment will play in alleviating the financial challenges faced by the affected workers.
