Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an ex-convict and five other suspects for armed robbery and other crimes

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an ex-convict and five other suspects for armed robbery and other crimes, recovering stolen items.

The Spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the arrests were made through recent operations aimed at reducing criminal activities across the state.

The arrest was made by the officers from Yelwa Divisional Police Headquarters on November 17, 2024.

Those arrested include four teenagers, Musa Umar, Ibrahim Mohammed, Bilal Musa, and Idriss Jibrin, all aged 17 and a 40-year-old woman, Maryam Salisu.

Stolen items recovered from them include two laptops, four mobile phones, chargers, flashlights, bottles of palm oil, headphones, a power bank, and an MP3 player.

In another case, the police arrested Adamu Mohammed, 22 from the Government Reserve Area, GRA, for allegedly stealing an armoured cable from his workplace, where he was a security guard.

He was said to have admitted to the theft and will be charged after investigations are completed.

The police also re-arrested ex-convict Jaafar Lawan, 34 for another robbery.

Jaafar was previously convicted in 2023 for attacking a motorcycle rider and stealing his bike, only to be accused of a similar crime after his release from prison.

Newsmen gathered that Jaafar stopped him for a ride and allegedly applied a suspicious substance on him, and left him unconscious. The victim was said to have woken up in the hospital three days later.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has directed the police to intensify security across Bauchi State to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season for all residents.
