The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has issued a stern warning to political supporters against instigating crises within the party, stressing that such actions play into the hands of enemies seeking to destabilize the party.
In a statement released by the state party chairman, Alhaji Aminu Sani Gumel, the APC emphasized its commitment to protecting the peace and unity of the party, particularly under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi.
The party’s leadership raised concerns over a series of provocative articles circulating in both social and mainstream media, aimed at discrediting key leaders, including the Honorable Minister of Defense, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
The APC believes these attacks are the work of “unscrupulous elements” with no formal affiliation to the party, who are attempting to create divisions for personal or political gain.
According to the statement, these individuals, some of whom are not even card-carrying members of the APC, are using a small group of misguided party members to promote their divisive agenda.
“These actions are not only damaging to the party but also undermine the unity that has allowed the APC to flourish in Jigawa State,” the party warned.
The statement further emphasized that the APC leadership holds both Governor Umar Namadi and Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar in the highest regard.
“These leaders have earned the party’s confidence and respect, and their reputation is sacrosanct to us. It must be guarded jealously,” the statement said.
The party also strongly denounced a recent smear campaign that falsely accused the Minister of Defense of being anti-party.
The APC pointed out that such allegations are baseless, especially given the minister’s role as the APC’s North-West campaign coordinator, which saw the party’s victory in Jigawa and the region during the 2023 general elections.
“Where was this faceless group when the Minister successfully delivered Jigawa State and the region to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu?” the statement asked, labeling the accusations “childish and silly.”
The APC made it clear that it would not tolerate any further attacks on its leaders or attempts to destabilize the party. The party vowed to use all available legal and political means to identify and take action against those responsible for the campaign of misinformation.
“We will ensure that those behind these malicious attacks are held accountable, both politically and legally,” the statement added.
